Gun Owners for Obama, the “Responsible” People are Speaking Up

Gun Owners for Obama, the “Responsible” People are Speaking Up

“I’m a gun owner from Virginia and I thank President Obama for standing up to the NRA and standing with responsible Americans.” -Scott, Virginia   (*Editors Note: the following was originally published in 2014 but the topic is once again very timely) As lawful American citizens gear up for another round of attacks from those who wish to disarm them, we are again beset with the task of defending something that in a sane world would not need to be defended. The question before all lawful citizens and true American patriots is what is required of us? Or what should we do? As a part of my daily routine, I rise early, brew coffee, let the black lab out to…

The Test: Do you have the right stuff to be a “Gun Expert?

The Test: Do you have the right stuff to be a “Gun Expert?

The modern era could legitimately be described as the “Age of the Expert”.  Thanks to the Internet, 100,000 self-proclaimed experts have arisen in all fields of endeavor. The television news channels trot out “experts” to fill time in their reports and bolster the opinions of the talking heads. Recently, I was on the phone with a peer in the training world and we discussed the concern we both shared regarding the danger of new gun owners or gun carriers getting online advice from “gun enthusiasts.” Before we progress. I have a confession to make, I am a vagina enthusiast. I have been my whole life. That being said, you won’t find me at the local clinic asking women to…

Gun Control Works

Gun Control Works

Recently a colleague offered the observation that anti-gun or gun control laws are blatant and obvious failures. He pointed to the crime rates in Chicago, D.C. and New York as examples of areas with severely restrictive gun control policies and yet record-breaking violent crime. My friend wondered aloud how any rational or thinking person, even if they didn’t like guns, could support gun control or call for more restrictions based on the mountain of evidence that such laws do nothing to curb violence or criminal behavior? To the contrary, studies such as “More Guns, Less Crime” provide ample evidence against gun control. We chatted for a bit and I pondered my response. The point that my compatriot had missed was…

Why the Russian AK Ban Matters to You

Why the Russian AK Ban Matters to You

The simple response to the recent Executive Order issued by Our Dear Leader banning the importation of small arms from Russia is to say “I don’t care. I don’t own or desire to own an AK.”  An additionally common response is, “No big deal, I’ll buy one of the new American AK’s or one from a country other than Russia.” Many may not be aware of it but, a couple of years ago during the advent of the SHOT Show 2013 the BATFE issued out a type of questionnaire/memorandum to FFL holders nationwide. In that letter they specifically addressed the Saiga 12 magazine-fed shotgun and posed the question/made a statement as to whether or not said shotgun had a “legitimate…

The Illusion of Neutrality: Eventually You Have to Choose a Side

The Illusion of Neutrality: Eventually You Have to Choose a Side

“I’m not right-wing or left-wing, I consider myself more of a centrist.” so said one of my acquaintances during a recent conversation. That’s not the first time I’ve heard such a statement or similar expression. The truth is that it is far more common for people to say they are a moderate this or that than it is for them to pick a definitive side. We’ve seen this play out for decades as people publicly declare themselves to be “undecided”, “centrist” or “neutral”. It’s not all that big of a surprise that when pressed to take sides most folks will squirm around and try to stay in the middle or remain neutral. During the last several years I’ve penned articles…

Chicago Murder Demonstrates the Failure of Gun Control

Chicago Murder Demonstrates the Failure of Gun Control

Evil abounds in this world; it always has and always will. The great question for those who oppose evil has ever been the method of that opposition. On Friday April 25, 2014 the rampant evil of out-of-control gang violence took the life of Leonore Draper in the West Pullman area of Chicago, Illinois. In a city that measures bloodshed by the barrel, the names of the dead rarely receive any national attention. The Draper killing has garnered interest outside of “Chicagoland” due to the extreme irony of her murder. Draper, a community activist, was heavily involved in the “anti-violence/anti-gun” groups CeaseFire and Project Orange Tree. CeaseFire Illinois closed its doors after the leader of the organization was arrested and charged with domestic violence and…

Gun Control: The Soft Pill for the Intellectually Lazy

Gun Control: The Soft Pill for the Intellectually Lazy

For as long as I’ve been alive the social elitist has been floating the term “Gun Control”. The first serious or official use of the term in the U.S. came from “Gun Control Act of 1968”. That act added to the previously existing Federal Government firearms restrictions put in place by the National Firearms Act of 1934. In both cases, opportunist politicians used a popular crisis to persuade the ignorant and mentally lazy that more laws would make the nation a ‘safer’ place. In 1934 the crisis was gang-land violence brought on by Prohibition and in 1968 we were still dealing with the assassination of President Kennedy. Nothing New From a historical perspective, the term Gun Control is relatively new,…
